On the occasion of the World Environment Day, Uttarakhand Chief MInister Trivendra Rawat announced that from July 31, a complete ban on polythene will be imposed in the state.
All the polythene wholesalers have been asked to finish the polythene stock by the fixed date.
Chief Minister Rawat said that one week before the ban, a mass awareness campaign, pertaining to the environmental damage due to polythene, would be undertaken in the entire state.
He said that in order to make Uttarakhand a polythene free state, apart from support from social organisations, there is need for public cooperation as well.
Rawat also planted sapling at the CM residence and participated in preparing pit for plantation in Dehradun on Tuesday. Pits were prepared for tree plantation at Daudwala, on the banks of river Rispana.
Under the Mission Rishiparna, from Rispana origin – Ladhaur Shikhar Fall to Motharwala-Daudwala, 2.5 lakh trees of different species would be planted in 32-KM area.
Uttarakhand CM Trivendra Rawat said, “Rispana to Rishiparna is a long term and ambitious campaign of the government. For the rejuvenation of Rispana and Kosi, three and half lakh trees will be planted on one day during ‘Harela’ festival. Tree plantation would be done totally with public cooperation.”
District Magistrate S A Murugeshan informed that 39 blocks have been made from Ladhaur Shikhar Fall to Motharwala-Daudwala for tree plantation. In the entire area, trees of different species would be planted and in these 30 per cent trees would be fruit bearing. He said that in this mission, they are receiving good response from everyone.
